Peter Eller has been a personal property appraiser in Albuquerque, New Mexico, since 1984. He belonged to the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) 1984-2002, and continues as a member of the Appraisers Association of America (AAA). He completed ISA core courses 101 (Professional Appraisal Practice), 102 (Personal Property Methodology and Reasoning), and 103 (Personal Property Appraiser’s Fiduciary Responsibilities) in 1984. He was also tested in ISA 104 (Advanced Appraisal Theory and Report Writing) in 1986 and ISA 105 (Appraiser as Expert Witness) in 1992. As a member of AAA, he is qualified in general Residential Contents, American Paintings and Prints, Southwest Paintings and Prints, and Southwest Indian as well as colonial Hispanic Arts. In 1999, he maintained certification by completing the AAA course on current and new IRS standards for donation and estate appraisals; and he was a member of the ISA committee on revising accreditation standards. He completed requirements for ISA recertification in 2001.
Eller follows the markets for American and Southwest art, European and American antiques and fine furniture, residential contents, Navajo weavings and Rio Grande Pueblo pottery, modern and colonial Hispanic and pre-Columbian Southwest artifacts by visiting dealers, attending auctions, trade shows and estate sales, and by regular reading in trade publications, journals and monographs, as well as subscription to various auction price and general sales indexes.
The bulk of his appraisal work is for insurance. He also writes reports on market analysis, estate settlement, division of property, and donation. His latest USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice) update was March, 2005.
